To Follow or NoFollow? Leave your Link.
I stumbled across Andy Beard’s Ultimate List of DOFOLLOW & NOFOLLOW PlugIns looking for some “follow” advice on my blogs.
I downloaded the WP Plugin: Nofollow from Home to add the “rel=nofollow” to the homepage posts of this very site along with some of my other blogs, so Google wouldn’t follow the affiliate links. You can be penalized for too many affiliate links on a site.
Then Wordpress automatically adds the “rel=nofollow” to post comments, so I downloaded the DoFollow WP Plugin from Semiologic to remove the tag on comments and trackbacks. That will encourage other webmasters to comment and link to specific website posts knowing it will help their PR. Go ahead and try it out. Leave a comment on this very post including your URL - can’t beat a free one-way link… unless, of course, you do want to link to this site!
P.S. Yes, I know it’s Friday, and I am wearing a free t-shirt. I’ll see if I can get one of my daughters to snap a pic…
Win Free Domain Name + Wordpress Blog Hosting
Since I seem to be infatuated with setting up Wordpress Blogs lately, I had just to enter this contest I found… Win a Free Domain & Free Hosting For Your WordPress Blog Contest (and find more contests at EnterOnlineSweeps.com).
Anyhoo, to enter you have write a blog post about that very contest (thus what I’m doing right now), and for every five entries received, there will be one free domain name winner ($10 paid via PayPal to use at the domain name register of your choice - GoDaddy is only $8.95 or less per year). And for every five domain name winners, there will be a winner of free Wordpress blog website hosting for LIFE which includes 500 MB disk space, 10 GB monthly data transfer, 5 MySQL databases, E FTP, 5 sub domains and 20 POP3 email accounts! Wow, life is a heckuva long time. I’m presuming it is for the lifetime their site is up and running. Nonetheless, I’d love to win it!
While visiting Sabahan.com, I found the website interesting. Gaman, the site owner lives in Sabah, a state in east Malaysia. And he is quite ingenious when it comes to Internet Marketing. Since I am the freebie queen, I was glad to find his list of Free Photos For Your Blog Or Web Site. Time to work on adding some pics to my blogs!
Plug Me In, Baby
My obsession with Wordpress Templates is slowly subsiding, and now I’m moving on to Wordpress Plug-Ins. I’ve found if you want to add some special function or feature to a Wordpress blog, simply google what you want, and someone smarter has already thought of the concept. Here’s just a few of the cool plug-ins I’ve added recently that I recommend…
WP Contact Form v.2.0WP I wanted a contact form so I didn’t have to divulge my email address online for robots to harvest and spam me (more than I already get). An example of this form is on my Contact Us page of this very site.
EventCalendar 3.0 I wanted a calendar in the sidebar that would show future events, not just previous posts. This is working nicely to display upcoming events for my local Kiwanis Club.
Captcha From ProtectWebForm This plug-in is cool. Eliminates comment spam by adding a captcha check to suspicious IP’s. I was getting bombarded with comment spam on my House for Kim Blog and Shoeaholics Anonymous Blog (only I knew it as comments were moderated, but it was a pain to delete them from the back-end). Since adding this plug-in a few days ago, I haven’t had one spam comment!
Dean’s Permalinks Migration With this plugin, you can change your permalink structure without breaking the old links to your website and doesn’t hurt your google pagerank. I installed this on several of my blogs changing the permalink structure to contain the category instead of the date. i.e. This link http://stealthestyle.com/2007/01/17/steal-jennifers-style is now this link http://stealthestyle.com/celebrities/jennifer-aniston/steal-jennifers-style/ Better, wouldn’t you agree?
And last, but not least, for today anyway…
Sidebar Widgets Lets you easily manage your sidebar with no HTML knowledge required. Does not work with all templates. I installed it on my Shoeaholics Anonymous Blog, but since I know HTML code, I tweaked it some.Making the Most of My Addictions
The first step in recovery of an addiction is admitting you have a problem.
Ok, here’s my mine… I’m addicted to shoes. And Diet Mountain Dew.But just recently I discovered I am addicted to GoDaddy.com. I have bought and sold hundreds of domain names. So many in fact, that I created a spreadsheet to keep track of where I registered them and when they all need to be renewed, etc. But over the last year, I realized I keep buying them from GoDaddy because 1) they are cheapest, 2) they offer lots of free add-ons (email forwarding, url forwarding, etc), and 3) their tech support has been good to me. They should invest in a toll-free number though.
So, slowly, I’ve been moving ALL my domain names and hosting to GoDaddy under one login. It’s gonna make life so much easier for me (and cheaper and happier) in the long run. It is kind of a pain to transfer stuff, but I shall reap the rewards later.
And using GoDaddy’s hosting, I found another new addiction! You can install wordpress with just a click (the platform this blog is uses), so now I’ve been obsessed with finding free wordpress templates for my sites. So far I’ve bookmarked Wordpress Diva and Template Xtreme. This week alone I re-did this very site (cool, eh?), my main company site plus I made a new site - Coffee Affiliate Blog. If I can do it, anyone can.
