The lifespan of the newer social network Ello.co may be short lived. It was exciting to be invited to join the cool kids and claim your username, but I personally haven’t found much value in it. And after looking at my Ello timeline, there hasn’t been much action.
Now the new TSU.co is giving Ello a run for it’s money by playing the social network game. They are taking a different approach to wooing in visitors. Instead of offering an “ad-free” experience, TSU claims to be the first combined social network and payment platform that lets users maintain ownership of the content they post. You can read more about their process and how they have $7 million in funding behind on them on Billboard.com.
Here’s my take on the two social networks and how they are different:
Ello is completely ad-free. TSU has banner ads in their sidebars and allow advertisers to sponsor posts. They are pledging to give 90% of revenue back to its users (Source: NY Times).
You can share any content on Ello. You can only share your own content on TSU. But you have the ability to sync up your Facebook and Twitter handles and share that content simultaneously.
The majority of my Ello friends are my old affiliate marketing friends. The majority of my TSU friends are newer bloggers. So obviously the demographics for each network is different.
The ad-free, shiny new nickel, simple looking site attracted the affiliate marketers. The thought of making money attracts bloggers. (Side note: bloggers should read Greg Hoffman’s lastest post on affiliate education for bloggers).
In order to join Ello, you need to be invited by a friend. That friend has to log in and send an email to their friend with an invitation code. You need to be invited to join TSU as well, but you can simply join through another user’s profile link. Here’s mine that you can use: https://www.tsu.co/shoppingkim
Once you join through my link, you will be added to my “Family Tree”, although they claim they are not a MLM or pyramid scheme. So I haven’t made any money with them yet, but maybe if you sign up under me, I will? I’m not holding my breath.
What’s your take?
Which network will last longer? Ello or TSU?
