If you’ve always been a hands-on technically savvy person, a career in HVAC could be for you. HVAC technicians don’t need to work out of an office, so this could be the perfect business to work from home and be your own boss. Here are a few things to consider if becoming an independent HVAC technician is for you.
In This Post:
Certification
In order to practice as an HVAC technician, you must be licensed. You can obtain your diploma by taking hvac training classes from an accredited school. If your schedule allows, obtaining from an on-site institution is best to give yourself hands on experience and on-the-job training. You need to have at least 2000 hours of on-the-job training. Online training is also an option, less the hands on experience. You can receive your diploma and license in as little as six months.
Business Equipment
As with any business, you will need your own tools and equipment. You may have received a few of the tools from school. To name a few items you’ll need include a work van, hand tools, duct and tubing, and temperature gauges.
Experience
Even if you have attended a campus for on-the-job training, you’ll need to build your reputation. Work part time for a vendor, and while doing so on the side, work either for free or discounted rates in exchange for testimonials. Make sure to have your own equipment to do so. Soon you’ll have your own clients and be ready to launch your business.
Thanks for sharing this! I had no idea that learning about HVAC systems could be so lucrative, especially if you can work from home! I will definitely be sure to consider HVAC training. It would be a really nice way to get some extra income!
