People nowadays give out so many reasons as to why they would want to set up their own office in their homes. Reasons such as being with the family more or cutting on office space rent expenses are some of these. As there are many reasons that people make out there when it comes to working at home, the same amount of pros and cons are also present and should be considered by aspiring businesses.

As people work in a formal office setup, there are many good things that come into mind for working at home especially with  high  speed internet connectivity. There are also many who are attracted in the idea of being their own boss.

Pros

  • No travel time to worry about. One of the major advantages is a person will not have to travel to go to work. A lot of hours are spent for traveling to and from the workplace and some cities just have unbearable traffic especially during office hours.
  • More extra time for the family. People who work at home get to spend more time with their family. Especially beneficial to those who have children, parents can check on the progress of their kids and guide them in their overall development.
  • Time and work is very flexible. A lot of flexibility can be had by people who prefer to work from their homes. Self employed professionals can choose to go out at any time and do the tasks that they cannot otherwise do if they have a fixed work schedule.

Although there really is freedom for people who work at home, there are also some cons that people should consider such as the ones mentioned below.

Cons

  • Lacking the spirit of competitiveness. One of the biggest disadvantages that working at home brings is that there will be a lack of interaction with other employees. The friends and colleagues that we have all give us that spirit to compete and improve overall productivity.
  • Battling with slackness. As pressure from starting work or choosing decent attire is barely existent for home employees, it can be a very easy choice to delay work in a day. If there is no maintenance of discipline, a decrease in productivity under these events can occur.
  • Chores at home add to pressure. It can be hard to avoid the chores at home especially since you eat, work and sleep here. Tasks at home can overwhelm a person if they do not deal with it right away. Normal tasks which usually just take a few minutes can take up more time than the usual if it stacks.

Opting to work at home may or may not be the best choice for everyone today. There should be proper time management, discipline and boundaries set before deciding to go for this opportunity. Many individuals have already experienced receiving more work at home if schedules are not dealt with correctly.

But one of the true advantages that working at home really provides is that there is so much flexibility and this is already a big bonus in itself. Many people claim that it is the best aspect in a home job as they can spend more time with the kids and their family.

One thing that my freelance web designer friend told me that really gets him working from home is wearing pants. He is not used to wear it anymore that it’s the most uncomfortable feeling he ever had, I say that’s the ridiculous thing I ever heard lol!
