Working from home has its advantages. For example, it makes it simple to enjoy the comforts of home while you earn money. If you want to, you may even work in your pajamas! However, many people who work from home may find that they don’t get as much incidental exercise, as they normally would.

You would be surprised at how many steps you take travelling to work, walking down the road for lunch and visiting co-workers for meetings. While these types of incidental activities may sound like they wouldn’t contribute too much of your overall fitness and health, it is actually quite the opposite. When tallied up they can significantly contribute to the recommended daily 10,000 steps that everyone should be achieving.

For this reason, learning the different ways to exercise while working from home will help bridge the gap. Not only is the extra exercise great for your health but also when you make fitness a priority, you’ll be a more effective worker and you’ll also look and feel better.

1.) Buy an Exercycle

Owning your own fitness machine, whether it’s an exercycle or something else, will help you to stay fit at home. It is quick to setup, doesn’t need much preparation to get started and is a convenient and time effective way to exercise. Make it fun by putting on some Netflix and you’ll find that riding an exercycle and watching a show, can be a great way to relax, get away from work and catch up on all of your favorite dramas.

2.) Find Quick Workout Videos Online

There are free / paid workout plans and video instructions that are online and usually only take 7 to 20 minutes to complete. These type of exercises provide a quick and intense workout that will have you sweating within the first 5 minutes. We recommend trying out some of the free workouts before buying one, as you can either love or hate them. If you do enjoy them, then it’s actually possible to become a member at some fitness websites where there are tons of high-quality workout videos that are regularly updated. Some of these websites can be quite affordable and just the convenience of working out in front of your smart phone, computer or TV can make them worthwhile.

3.) Find A Good App

There are thousands of apps available for free or for purchase, that are useful to track, plan and motivate you to workout. These apps aren’t just limited to the gym but also extend to be useful for at home exercising. Apps like ‘Tone It Up’ and ‘Johnson & Johnson Official 7 Minute Workout’ are great apps to help kick start your workouts without having to think too much about them. Additionally, if you are finding it difficult to build up the motivation and interest to exercise, try downloading this motivational app called ‘Lift’ or try some of these useful techniques.

4.) Do Old-school Exercises

You can keep it simple by doing jumping jacks, skipping with a rope, doing push-ups and performing sit-up exercises at home. All of the exercises that you learned in gym class are trusted classics and doing them will help you to raise your heart rate, burn calories and tone your muscles. Just because you are doing them at home instead of a gym doesn’t make them any less effective.

5.) Try Yoga from Home

Yoga videos are out there and they help people to learn the right postures and breathing techniques. If you want to learn Yoga online, you won’t need to pay. It’s all about finding free instructional videos or searching for free apps at your Google Play or iPhone store. Of course, you can also find a host of DVDs or pay for an app that features Yoga workouts and watch them on your smart phone, TV or computer.

6.) Consider Pilates from Home

Pilates helps to lengthen and strengthen muscles. It’s the preferred workout of models and actresses, because it doesn’t add bulk and creates a nice, long and lean body line. If you want an interesting home workout and you prefer a leaner body shape, Pilates may be right for you. Look for information about this online or find on sale DVDs. It’s a great workout which was originally designed in order to assist patients with physical rehabilitation.
