Working from home can be a blessing. As a previous Work in My Pajamas post notes, “every day is a good day and I feel so comfortable because I am in my own space.” These days, a lot can be done from the home, including both vocational and educational pursuits.
People choose to pursue an online degree for similar reasons to those who choose to work online. Typically, these include time, transport, and the freedom to deal with daily life. The reasons for going back to school vary, but few can argue that an added degree is often a valuable asset.
There are several aspects to consider when choosing an online educational route. These include accreditation of the university itself, the program choices available, and the level of the academic pursuit.
Accreditation is a way of validating university programs to ensure educational consistency throughout the variety of schools and institutions. Accreditation provides a basis for transfer credits as well as setting standards for future schools and employers.
The variety of programs offered is similar to that of traditional education. Although, as the internet is the educational medium, the bulk of programs follow the doctrines of liberal arts, humanities, and social sciences. For instance, online teaching degrees, English degrees, and social work degrees are often the top programs offered by online universities.
Although the bulk of online learning outlets focus on the arts, a large percentage is also dedicated toward business and nursing degrees.
Finally, the level of academic pursuit is important to remember. Are you going for an associates, first or second Bachelor’s, or looking to advance to the Master’s level? Luckily online outlets are available for each.
