I was invited to the Google Affiliate Network (GAN) Client Summit, so I made a quick trip to Chicago earlier this week. Here’s just ten high points from my excursion…

  1. Sharing a room at the Swissôtel with enjoyable Tricia Meyer from Sunshine Rewards.
  2. Having dinner at Soldier Field. I almost had enough Rum Punches to dance to the 80’s cover band, Sixteen Candles.
  3. Meeting GAN merchants with private programs that wouldn’t even consider working with me before.
  4. Visiting with the pleasurable Dan Greene before I learned that he was such a big-wig at Google (and Navy fighter pilot).  🙂
  5. Listening to Avinash Kaushik compare web analytics to orgasms.
  6. Hearing “The Father of the Internet” Vint Cerf speak about the past, present and future of technology.
  7. Wishing I would have gotten Mitch Joel to autograph my copy of his book Six Pixels of Separation.
  8. Hanging with old friends (even if they skipped some of the event to take a private jet golfing) and making new friends.
  9. Seeing the filming of the Transformers 3 Movie in downtown Chicago.
  10. Eating dinner with the ShareASale gang (gotta love Brian, Sarah, Jessica and Grandpa David) before catching my flight back to the middle of nowhere.

Looking back, there are only a few things I would have changed about the trip:

  1. I would have accepted Connie’s invitation to Rock-Fest beforehand and drove to Chicago with the Schaaf brothers.
  2. I would have checked my bag on the way home instead of carrying it on – TSA confiscated my goodie bag from Footsmart.
  3. I would have looted more Kit Kats into my handbag from Google’s snack shelf.

  1. Great recap! I would say just about the same things but have to swap our names in the first point. ๐Ÿ™‚ I even agree about the Kit Kats. Thank goodness for Kevin. I remembered that it was in my bag about 11:00 that night when I was driving and getting tired and desperate. I still have the two “free” (or $52) bottles of water in my car though.

Thanks for making it a great trip for me. Now I wish you were going to CJU!!

  2. Kim: Sorry I missed meeting you at GAN Summit. I think we would have got on very well! ๐Ÿ˜€ Are you heading to ASE? We should catch up! I too loved the kit kats, and thankfully remembered to check my bag for the very reason of not getting my footsmart goodies confiscated.

P.S. As a mom of one (2 year old) I *heart* boogie wipes.

  3. Hi Kim- I’m so sorry to hear about your FootCare kit! If you send me your home address (kbarlow@benchmarkbrands.com), I will make sure that you get another one. ๐Ÿ™‚ — Katie

  4. Tricia – I wish I was going to CJU with you, too!

Gretchen – Sorry, I missed you as well. Will you be at ASE10 in NYC?

Katie – Thanks so much for the offer! I just emailed you.

  5. I even agree about the Kit Kats. Thank goodness for Kevin. I remembered that it was in my bag about 11:00 that night when I was driving and getting tired and desperate
