If you work from home, or if you dream about one day doing so, you know that the job description comes with many enticing benefits. Working in your pajamas is just one of them.

On top of that, you have flexibility and the ability to hug your kids when they step off of the school bus. But sometimes it is actually wise to leave the house. Here are five reasons to change into real clothes and relocate — just for the day.

An Unavoidable Distraction

Having a home office is essential, but sometimes even the borders you’ve erected around your sanctuary won’t be enough to keep the chaos out. If you have demanding houseguests, for example, you might want to consider taking your business to the coffee shop for the day. Other unavoidable distractions might include construction, an event, or an upcoming move.

You Don’t Have The Resources

If you have reached a point in your work where you need specific resources that your home can’t provide, then you may need to take your show on the road.

Some co-op workspaces include photocopiers and scanners. A library could make research easy when you were struggling from home. Make things easy on yourself by finding the space that contains the tools that you need.

A Deadline Approaches

One of the many perks of working from home is being able to toss the laundry into the drier when you hear the machine stop or marinate the chicken so it will be ready when dinner time rolls around. But those conveniences (a.k.a. distractions)  can get in the way of productivity when your timeline is really down to the wire.

Having a deadline right around the corner can be a nerve-wracking time –  perhaps you need to submit an accounts report, create a viral blog post or complete a client’s marketing campaign? If so, you might find that your productivity increases when you leave the house. If you move to a new location, like a coffee shop, library, or shared workspace, you might be able to cruise up to the final hour instead of pulling your hair out as it approaches.

Most of the time, working from home is an amazing gift. From the comfort of a home office we get to be a part of our families, take care of daily tasks, eat and sleep when we want to, and generally create our own schedules.

But in a few instances, like the ones mentioned above, it is wise to move out of the home office and work somewhere else. Don’t worry, your PJ’s will be waiting for you when you come home.
