Pizza
Pizza is a popular delivery choice. As delicious as a deep dish, extra cheese, sausage and pepperoni pizza may sound, it is not the healthiest choice. Make it healthier by forgoing the deep dish crust for a regular or thin crust pizza. While cheese is an excellent source of calcium and protein, it is also high in fat. Consider omitting the cheese. Instead ask for the pizza sauce piled with plenty of vegetables and some grilled chicken.
Chinese Food
Fortune cookies and late night deliveries is what Chinese restaurants are known for. While this type of delivery option offers many healthy food choices, there are also plenty of unhealthy choices that are high in fat, sodium, and calories. The key to eating healthy Chinese food is to really review the menu and make special requests to substitute the unhealthy options. Avoid ordering anything that is fried or have it replaced with the steamed option. This means avoiding fried rice, lo mein noodles, egg rolls, fried dumplings, and rangoons. Ask for steamed rice or brown rice with your meal. Order a meal that is packed with lots of steamed vegetables and a low sodium sauce. Remember to watch your portion sizes.
Burger Establishments
Who doesn’t like a big juicy burger packed with bacon, mayo, cheese, and lettuce? It’s okay to treat yourself to something like this every now and then, but it is not something anyone should be eating too often. Burger establishments are evolving by taking into consideration their health-conscious customers. You should be able to find veggie burgers on the menu, salads, grilled chicken, and even fruit. Skip the cheese, go light on the mayo, and heavy on the lettuce and tomato on your next burger meal.
Keep Healthy Snacks in Your Home
Delivery is all about convenience, but what about snacking in between meals? Make sure you keep healthy snacks in the home. Foods like fresh fruit, vegetables, yogurt, and hummus could help curb your appetite in between meals. They could also help you feel full, which should also make you eat smaller meal portions.
The work-from-home life can be demanding and you can easily find yourself looking for ways to simplify your life. Simple things like cooking can easily fall at the end of the spectrum with fast food quickly becoming your best friend. This is okay as long as you are making healthy choices. With a little bit of effort and willpower, you can navigate your way around the junk food and maintain a healthy diet while living off of delivery food.
