Working from home can definitely have its downfalls. Having to get up every day and start your work from the same place you ate dinner the previous night, and then repeating it all over again the next day, can start to feel a bit too Groundhog Day at times. However, despite the various pitfalls, working from home can actually be one of the best things you can do for your professional life, and its benefits can extend to your business as a whole. So, next time you’re curling up in your PJ’s with your laptop, wondering whether you made the right decision by leaving your office job, remember all the reasons why working from home can be one of the best business decisions you’ve ever made:
1. Get better sleep.
While this may seem trivial, getting a good night’s sleep is essential to having a productive work day. Too many professionals are wasting hours of their days commuting to and from their office buildings. When you work from home, you can spend that time catching up on much-needed Z’s.
2. Organize your work day more efficiently.
When you work in an office, there is little you can do aside from sit at your desk. Working from home allows for the freedom to do your best work when you function best. This means that if you’re lacking in inspiration or need to take a break, you can run to the grocery store or go to a yoga class. Working from home gives you the opportunity to get things done in the way that is most efficient for you.
3. Save money on professional attire.
Just having to put on some sort of professional dress five days of the week can set you back hundreds every month and thousands annually. Working from home allows you to put that money to better use.
4. Benefit from more free time.
Instead of having to navigate around a 9-5 schedule for free time, you have time available throughout the day to de-stress and decompress. Being able to choose how and when you spend personal time makes you that much better at what you do.
5. Focus on what really matters.
Rather than having to stress about getting to the office on time, taking too long a lunch break, or having to ask off of work to attend appointments, working from home allows you to direct your stress and effort toward goals that are much more important to your business as a whole.
6. No one can see your tricks of the trade.
By working from home, you are able to do your work exactly how you like to do it, and no one will be privy to your methods. It is a great way to have private discussions with clients, set up your Excel documents so they do the bulk of the work for you, or head to the gym to play a little one on one with the client you’ve been hoping to snag.
7. Save money on office expenses.
If you own your own business, setting up shop in an outside location comes with huge expenses. Rent is the first item on the list. You will also have to pay for utilities, tech needs, and office supplies. By working from home, you avoid most of these added expenses and can funnel them back into your business.
