Home-Based Jobs for Stay-at-Home Moms

Many new moms and some new dads have a hard time separating themselves from the baby. This is completely understandable and even encouraged. It is difficult to leave your child with a stranger, as well as it’s difficult to let someone else raise your child while you are out there making money in order to raise that very child. It’s a strange cycle. Luckily, there is something you can do and, according to a study by McKinsey&Company, it’s becoming more and more popular. There is a wide range of jobs that can be done on the Internet with flexible hours, as well as other jobs that allow you to stay with your baby and earn money at the same time.

Transcriptionist

This is a very convenient job. It has flexible hours and you can do it whenever your baby is asleep. The job is quite simple – you listen to audio files and convert them into text. In addition, if you speak more than one language, there will be more work for you, hence more money.

Translator

Speaking of languages, if you do know more than one, and if you know them well, being a translator is a good job for you. You will get deadlines and tasks, you will have the absolute freedom to organize your time and work as long as you follow the deadline. There is no contact with other people and there are no meetings which means you are your own boss.

Writer

Another great thing you can do as a stay-at-home mom is write articles for a blog or website. This requires some writing skills and good knowledge of grammar and language in general, as well as some talent or practice beforehand. However, it doesn’t hurt to try. This is one more job from the list of jobs with flexible hours and no meetings.

Proofreader

This is a person who has more responsibilities than the writer and similar working conditions. Writers don’t need to stress so much about grammar and language because their every text is checked by proofreaders. Proofreaders have less work, but bigger responsibilities. If you are confident about your language skills, be sure to try it.

Virtual Assistant

This is actually just like being a real assistant, the only difference is that you are working from home and your customers don’t know that. Companies hire them for practical reasons. Have you ever thought about all-night-available technical support? They’re probably not sitting in their office at 3am, but are working from home. The job positions included are customer service representative, answering service agent, virtual receptionist agents etc. According to Office HQ, this helps businesses avoid unnecessary interruptions, saves time and money while providing a great option for home based work.

Teacher

Basically, you have two options here. You can be a tutor, and have students come to you, or you can teach online. The first option can bring you more money because you work for yourself only, not for a company that takes a percentage of your income and if you create a group of students who come together you can make even more. However, if you choose the second option, you will earn less and probably be obliged to have one-on-one lessons, but this option gives you more freedom than the first one.

These are just some suggestions on how to make money working from home while taking care of your baby. There are much more opportunities – now more than ever. So, if anyone starts convincing you that you should go back to work and leave your baby with a sitter, you have a considerable number of counter arguments to throw at them. Just go for it!
