This week I had the opportunity to interview Julio Medina about his business, Morale Patch Armory.

1. Hi Julio! Tell me about Morale Patch Armory.

Morale Patch Armory was an idea I had while serving in the United States Air Force, I loved everything about Morale Patches and there are some really great designers and artists out there. While there are a couple competitors in the state there are many people who have made and sold morale patches in more of a hobby form and so I decided it was time to take action and apply the business and marketing side that I know to this idea and turn it into a profitable, scalable business model. We will be exploring more avenue for growth and we will also be looking at where we can “give back” and donate to several different nonprofit organizations that support our military and law enforcement officers across our great nation.

2. Are you the registered owners of the trademark “Morale Patch”?

Yes! We registered the trademark prior to our launch and we are looking forward to using it not only to protect our brand but also to grow the business through several different avenues and revenue streams.

3. I see you have a huge following on social media. Can you give us any secrets to your branding and marketing efforts?

Relatable interests, people on social media are always looking for interesting topics, brands, and things that their friends like. When you create rich, relevant content that your target audience will relate with you will win every single time. Content is king and it always will be.

It also helps in my case that I am part of my target audience so I can relate to them.

4. I also see that you are located in a small town in Iowa; I’m your neighbor in a small town in Nebraska. Are you a Hawkeye fan? Although I’m a Husker fan, I promise not to discriminate.

Small town Iowa is the BEST! I actually established a social media community called Around Iowa on Facebook! You should check it out sometime. I am shamelessly a Hawkeye fan, and I am thankful you won’t hold that against me!

5. Where do you plan to take the business in the next 5 years?

The 5-year vision for Morale Patch Armory is to become the “go to” name in the Industry and provide the best quality and designs for morale patches and also grow our brand through licensing of our brand and trademark(s).

Thanks for your time, Julio! I invite everyone to check out MoralePatchArmory.com and follow their active social media feeds (good stuff).

  1. Do not do business with this disgusting human being, or his horrific company. He puts on a good face, and is actively attacking hundreds a veteran owned businesses. Just Google him, this guy is literally Hitler.

  2. Not sure how you trademark “morale patch” since it’s something that has been used for years but good luck. All real Patch collectors and makers now know who to avoid.

  3. Do not buy from this business. He blatantly steals designs from those great artists he mentions in the interview. You will never be the go to name in the market. You will be avoided like the plague.

  4. This guys is lying about ownership of the term Morale Patch. This is going to litigation and he will lose. His application for copyright and trademark is full of false information. Dishonesty will not abide.

You intend to try to license the use of the words Morale and Patch together because you think you came up with that – even though you admit you didn’t in your own interview. You trademark and steal Intellectual Property all in the same breath. You are a special kind of tool. Have fun being blacklisted by the industry you are trying to profit off of!!!

  6. Great business move: alienate tens of thousands of patch enthusiasts and make them your enemy. I thought you said you had experience in marketing? Might to prefix that with “shitty”. Since a law firm has already been retained to shut this rediculousness down I’m looking forward to the next interview.

  7. An open letter to this yutz who thinks he owns the term, “morale patch,”

There simply aren’t the words to describe the disgust that literally thousands of us in the patch community are now harboring for you and your company. The utter animosity and antipathy that you’ve generated with your attempted usurpation of the term “morale patch” will be your downfall and undoing. As I write this, the myriads of guys and gals who have collected morale patches for decades are uniting against your company and this amoral grab at a term that does not, has never, and will never belong to you (or anyone else for that matter).

I would strongly suggest this: file to cancel your trademark, issue the community an apology, and hope you can slink away without too much more damage to your “brand.” (Though to be perfectly honest, I’d suggest changing the company’s name…the damage is very likely already irreparable at this point.)

In any case, the ball’s in your court. Do the right thing, or prepare to get metaphorically paddled in legal proceedings by very, very good trademark attorneys funded by a very, very tight-knit community with some very, very deep pockets.

    Your move. Choose wisely.

  8. Screw this guy. Morale patches have been around longer than this clown and now he’s only copywriting it to gain money off of lawsuits. Word will get around and no one in the community who knows the story will do business with him.

  9. Smooth move TOOLio.
Good luck in your upcoming lawsuit.
You are despised among Morale Patch collectors now. Hope you’re ready for this.

  10. Morale Patch! Morale Patch! Morale Patch! Morale Patch! Morale Patch! Morale Patch! Morale Patch! Morale Patch!
