You may not have time for a part-time job, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t find a few extra ways to earn some money. Here are 10 things you can do when you have a bit of free time to help boost your income.
In This Post:
1. Trading
You don’t have to be an expert in the stock market to earn some money trading online. There are plenty of new sites that let you dabble in trading with little-to-no experience, with low fees and no minimum balances. Check out Learn To Trade or ETrade to get started.
2. Sell Your Stuff
Those RC cars that you bought for the kids that are now sitting on a shelf in your garage after 3 uses? What about the snow blower that you don’t use now that you’ve moved to a warmer climate? List these items for sale on eBay or a local sharing site to get back at least some of what you paid for it.
3. Rent Your Stuff
So maybe you don’t want to get rid of the extension ladder in your garage because you do need it for cleaning your gutters and minor home repairs a few times a year, but that doesn’t mean it has to sit there not doing anything. Use a website like Zilok or Nextdoor to let your neighbors know they can rent your items for a nominal fee.
4. Freelancing
There are plenty of opportunities to put your skills to work online, without having to commit your hours. Freelancing lets you set your own schedule, and take on the jobs that you know you can handle. Whether it’s writing web content, data entry, or getting paid to leave reviews for people, there are plenty of options for picking up some extra cash.
5. Reading Emails
There are many companies out there that are willing to pay people to just read emails. Check out InboxDollars to see how you can boost your income by spending just a few minutes each day doing something you’re going to do anyway.
6. Surveys
People will pay you for your opinions on everything from healthcare choices to electronics to pet care. There are plenty of market-research survey services that you can sign up for, and you can often get paid just to answer a few quick questions every day.
7. Credit Card Rewards Programs
If you have to spend money anyway, you might as well get paid for it, right. It’s easy to set up all of your utilities to be paid from a credit card with a high rewards rate, and then just pay off the bill every month. You won’t accrue any interest, and you’ll earn rewards ranging from cash to gift cards and travel vouchers.
8. Errands
You can often find someone close by that needs an errand or two run every week, often in places you’re going to be going anyway. Neighborhood groups like Nextdoor are great places to find small gigs like taking someone’s child to their piano lesson for $20 a week; pair it with a nearby task you have to do anyway, like your grocery shopping, and you’ll essentially get paid for something you’re doing anyway.
9. Ride-hailing Sites
Working for Uber and Lyft have their ups and downs, but it can be a great way to earn some extra cash when you can’t set normal working hours because of prior commitments. If you’ve already got a decent working car, you can get paid to drive people around on your down-time.
10. Sell Your Knowledge
Already work in IT? Let your friends and family know that you can help them out with their own computers. You may not make a killing, but it’s a quick way to earn a few extra bucks here and there, and save them money in the process, since it will likely be a fraction of the cost of taking it to another business.
There are plenty of ways to earn some extra cash when you’re too busy to commit to a part-time job. Look into some of these suggestions to see which ones work best for you.
