So much for my goal to blog every week, huh? I didn’t even have time to snap a new photo of me in my pajamas. Instead you get an image of Einstein’s desk on the day of his death. If any of you have personally seen my desk, you’ll know I can relate. Did you know that Einstein was a premature baby, too? My preemie twins just turned 21. It’s hard to believe that when I was 21, I was pregnant with them. And I just got off-topic (and gave away my age). On to the news…

We’ll start with why blogging is ruining my life. Okay, Jennifer Bly wrote that article, but it could’ve been me.

Pinterest

I’ve had a draft entitled “How To Add Affiliate Links On Pinterest” in my WordPress Dashboard for two years now, where I’ve been listing “networks” (basically affiliates that pay sub-affiliates) that allowed you to pin products where the affiliate tracking stayed in place. I actually dusted off that post earlier this week when I discovered that you can pin Zulily products with your referral name in place. Well, that post can now go in the trash, because I just got this email from Pinterest:

Starting today, we’ll automatically remove all affiliate links, redirects and trackers on Pins. We’ve been automatically removing most of these links for a few years but, until now, we made exceptions for rewardStyle and Hello Society’s affiliate network. If you’ve participated in either of these affiliate networks, all your past Pins will show up normally and still be clickable. They just won’t include the affiliate tracker when people click on them.

Remember when Pinterest was being chastised for using Skimlinks to monetize its pinners? Well, now Bit.ly is receiving criticism for redirecting their links through Viglink. Don’t worry, they are NOT overwriting masked affiliate links on custom domains (I tested several links). Now I believe that companies have the right to make money when they offer free services, but they need to disclose this fact to everyone involved.

Amazon

Amazon just launched a new marketing tool called Amazon Giveaway for businesses to run contests. The prize must be an Amazon product that Amazon will fulfill. I’m anxious to test this out and add to my list of contest tools.

Jon Youshaei (who I have a brunch date with the next time I’m in San Fran) wrote an interesting and inspiring article for Forbes: The Uberpreneur: How An Uber Driver Makes $252,000 A Year.

Content Marketing

Carolyn Kmet shared three affiliate tools for content marketing on PracticalEcommerce while Tim Ash says you should use humor to increase conversions.

Speaking of content marketing, I’m hoping to be able to attend the Authority Rainmaker Conference in Denver in May. The speaker lineup is spectacular.

Last month, I attended the biggest Affiliate Summit conference to date in Las Vegas and I didn’t even get sick! Here’s some recaps of the event from my colleagues:

I finally made the switch from a PC to Mac. Jangro should be so proud. We’ll see if the saying is true that once you go Mac, you never go back. I was just pleased as punch that I finally figured out how to attached two different monitors to my Macbook Pro.

*This Redirector Checker is one of the links on my homepage vision board. It’s especially helpful for program managers to figure which affiliates are illegally bidding on PPC terms.

P.S. Don’t forget that Saturday is Valentine’s Day! I have the pleasure of working with Florists.com during this busy holiday, and they are offering $25 off ANY order with Code: LOVE25 (Note, shipping is $14.95, so you basically get $10 off plus free shipping which is still a fab deal)! Buy through your favorite cash-back site to save even more.
