Working from home is starting to become popular. This is due to the sheer fact that a lot of people have been forced to stay home due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. The virus has caused countries to lock down their borders and sit tight, waiting for the development of vaccine and quelching of infection rates in their regions to keep the population as safe as possible. A lot of companies had to close down their doors due to the fact that it was impossible to continue working in their sector without people physically visiting. Usually, these companies are from the entertainment industry like casinos, movie theaters, restaurants, etc. Some of the largest sectors have also been hit hard like global traveling and tourism. Most of the planes have been sitting ducks in hangars ever since the COVID-19 infection rates peaked worldwide in April and are just now starting to take flights again. Naturally, this caused a number of companies to let their workers go home and start working remotely.

Remote jobs may seem all fun and dandy from the outside perspective, however, they certainly do have many disadvantages. Although the number of people working remotely keeps increasing in countries like the United States of America, there are a fair number of reasons why someone should avoid working permanently from home. However, most of the weight still comes down to the healthy nature of an individual. There are some people who enjoy the comforts of their home too much to be able to sit and work from there reliably. However, there are also people who can easily enjoy themselves without straining their nerves too much. A lot of times people feel sad and alone due if they are the only workers-from-home in a group or a company that works from the office. Here we will go through some of the reasons why people avoid working remotely.

Time Management

Correctly managing time is a quintessential trait that needs to be set straight for everyone who wants to work from home. The problem is that homes are usually incredibly cozy making them a perfect place for procrastination. A person has everything they need to rest at home. It can be that gigantic TV that may always be blasting or a cute dog or cat that’s always craving for attention. Otherwise, house chores can also be major distractions. Stuff like laundry, un-mowed lawn, children, spouse the list can go on endlessly. Plus there is nobody standing behind your shoulder watching what you are doing during the day so the worker can give too much freedom to themselves and browse twitter or Reddit for an hour or two…or three…

A lot of people who try to stay focused on the job at hand and not get distracted usually try to stay within the mindset of working even when they are taking their marry rest. This can be done by utilizing the free time to do something financially productive. For example, back at my previous workplace, I had a coworker who used to trade on the foreign exchange market during his lunch break. He would casually sit on the table eating food while keeping an eye out on his phone. Once the pandemic started he’s been working remotely and during our conversation, I deduced that during the lockdown he had more opportunity to pay attention to trading on Mondays and Fridays, which are the best days to trade forex since the volume is increased. With his home setup and nobody looking behind his shoulder, it became much easier for him to track the movements and tendencies of the market.

Conveniently trading is something that is hugely popular for people all across the globe at this moment. And the more people are at home the more popular it becomes. The idea is that it is a great activity to involve yourself in if you have some spare change in your pocket and free time.

The same company that deduced the best days for FX trading, Axiory have integrated functionalities into their systems which let a person set up a script that opens and closes the deals when certain thresholds are met. This means that it is an activity that doesn’t need your constant attention anymore and creates a perfect leisurely hobby that generates income for the user.

Apart from this, there are a lot of useful time-management applications that help users track what to do and when. They allow people to log time devoted to specific tasks as well as make categories and group them. These applications then further provide (sometimes for a fee) valuable charts that give their user the ability to find different working patterns and fix the shortfallings of their day-to-day procrastination attacks.

Team Communication and Feeling

What sets working from home apart from working from the office is the feeling of being a part of the team. You may be chatting with someone over slack but it is still not the same as it would be if you were present at the office. The environment is usually something that keeps people motivated to continue working on their mundane jobs. The jokes that are being said, over the shoulder talks, even the wending machine talks can become something you reminisce about at certain points.

The idea is that in the office you always have to communicate with people. Humans are social beings and even though it may seem like a chore sometimes the end result is still a healthy psychology that knows that if anything that Joe next to the kitchen is always up for a conversation. Apart from this, the more visible one is around the office the better it is for their career. Working remotely just leaves this feeling that you are left out. Outside of the circle and that life is moving somehow without you.

Visibility

This one is extremely important and happens to a lot of people with leadership inexperienced in leading a remote team. The idea is simple and the results are dire. The management just doesn’t see you. What this means is that you may work your fingers off typing at the computer, making charts, or whatever your job may be but the boss rarely physically sees you and this means that you may pass up on some interesting proposals. There have been numerous cases where instead of going through the mundane selection process I’ve seen casual entrances from management asking if anyone was interested in a new project. The idea is that there are always people who accept on the spot and nobody is actually seeking anyone else anymore. At this point, if you are not physically present in the office such opportunities are just hit and miss depending on your luck.

Apart from what we have already discussed, there is also a possibility that you will be entirely missed during the promotion period. A lot of times people just assume that for some reason those who work remotely do not work much at all and thus do not even consider people outside of the actual physical office as material to grow the company. Keeping enough social interaction with the whole office is hard enough as is and it becomes even more difficult if you are the one working from home.
