While some people might know what they want to do with their lives from a young age, others might have a difficult time finding their passion. If you are filled with drive and ambition but don’t know the best avenue to go down, you simply haven’t discovered the best job for your personality yet.
If you don’t dream of becoming a doctor, lawyer, or chef, there are many more vocations to choose from. Here are five unique career paths to consider.
In This Post:
1. A Railroad Conductor
Railroad conductors are responsible for overseeing the crew on both freight and passenger trains and will manage the various activities required to be undertaken onboard. For example, you’ll be primarily responsible for announcing stops, checking passenger tickets, managing the loading and unloading of cargo, and ensuring the train remains on schedule, plus more.
There are different avenues to choose from to become a railroad conductor; for example, you can receive on-the-job training, or you could complete a course at a college or training facility.
2. LTL Carrier Driver
If railroads don’t ignite a fire inside of you, you always have the option to become an LTL carrier driver, which will allow you to travel across the country. You’ll need to gain a commercial driver’s license (CDL), and you must also pass both a written exam and driving test to demonstrate you can safely operate the trucks.
You’ll also need to possess excellent time management skills to make deliveries on time to multiple destinations. Once you have all the above, find a business that offers a competitive LTL freight quote for every customer, which will ensure you receive recurring business.
3. Food Scientist
Do you class yourself as a bit of a foodie but don’t have the right temperament to be a chef? A food scientist could be the ideal career for you. You’ll be responsible for creating delicious products that land on grocery store shelves. Each working day you’ll be focused on developing nutritious, delicious meals and snacks that are free from bacteria.
As a result, you’ll need to embark on extensive research, conduct experiments, and run clinical trials to develop scrumptious, safe products for human consumption. If this sounds like an exciting vocation, you will need to earn a bachelor’s degree in either food science, microbiology, or chemistry. You could then find a position at a food manufacturing company, laboratory, university, or government agency.
4. Video Games Tester
If computer games are more than just a hobby to you, you might have the passion needed to become a professional video games tester. This means you will be paid good money to test video games that have yet to be released onto the market. However, to excel in the role, you’ll need exceptional attention to detail to ensure there are no flaws or glitches on every level and sequence. You can also start a career as a video games tester with zero qualifications.
5. A Bike Courier
Bike couriers are an essential service in large, busy cities, such as New York, as traffic jams will not slow down deliveries. If you live in a bustling city and would like a job that keeps both your mind and body active, a bike courier could be the perfect fit for your lifestyle. You can also choose to work as an independent contractor, or you could secure employment at a courier company.
As you’ll be cycling across all corner of the city, you’ll need to be physically fit and be familiar with the layout of every neighborhood, so you never disappoint a customer. You don’t need any qualifications to get started, but you may need to own your own bike.
