This week, we had the pleasure of interviewing Reed Gusmus…
1. Tell me about yourself.
I’m a longtime resident of the Atlanta area, where I currently work as the director of marketing for QASymphony, a company I originally joined as a senior marketing manager. Before accepting the opportunity to join QASymphony, I held similar positions with other companies in the industry, and I even enjoyed quite a bit of entrepreneurial success as well. Several of these entrepreneurial endeavors actually began while I was still a student at Kennesaw State University, where I studied marketing and management through the university’s Michael J. Coles College of Business.
2. Tell me about QASymphony.
With its emphasis on cultivating a creative, collaborative work environment, QASymphony is simply a wonderful company to work for. At the risk of oversimplifying things, QASymphony’s principal aim is to help diverse industries create better software through the use of effective and efficient testing and QA tools.
It is with great pride that I serve as the company’s director of marketing, and I am mainly responsible for developing a comprehensive and highly effective marketing strategy. Although my specific responsibilities are quite diverse, my role typically involves the oversight of each of the following: lead and demand generation; financial planning and management; the creation and management of useful measurement methodologies; predictive analysis and reporting; and the development of an effective approach across all sales partnerships.
3. As a graduate of Kennesaw State University’s Michael J. Coles College of Business, are there actual classes in testing tools and test management?
Yes, the Coles College of Business offers quite a few courses within the information systems major that cover testing tools and test management with exceptional depth. Even though I focused on marketing and management, I also enrolled in courses that I felt would prove beneficial once I began my career in earnest. It is at least partly due to the availability of these classes that I have been able to flourish as a professional — especially in my role with QASymphony.
4. Who is QASymphony’s target customer?
Although many of our customers come from the software and technology industries as well as government, financial services, and retail, the simple fact of the matter is that software and software development is increasingly prevalent across all industries. The health care industry, for example, has a tremendous — and continually expanding — need for effective testing tools, especially with regard to ensuring the quality of EHR systems.
5. Do you have any hobbies offline?
There are quite a few hobbies I enjoy, including photography, travel, and aviation. Whenever I have free time, it is most likely that I will be doing something involving any one of my aforementioned hobbies, but my recent focus has mostly been on aviation. As you might imagine, my status as a serious aviation enthusiast places quite a significant demand on my time.
Thanks for your time, Russ!
